A Live Session on the Hey Downtown Van Podcast
Colour analysis videos out of Korea and Japan have taken over social media but you don't need a flight to Seoul to try it. Downtown Vancouver has one of the city's first dedicated colour analysis studios, and it recently got the full demo live on the Hey Downtown Van podcast.
Host Sophia Lorra sat down with Christina Florencio, founder of REVIVAL Colour Analysis Studio, for an episode that doubled as a live colour analysis session. Here's what came out of it, and why colour analysis is becoming one of the top things to do in downtown Vancouver for locals, tourists, and corporate teams alike.
From Vintage Racks to Colour Analysis Studio
Christina left a corporate marketing and business development career to start a small vintage rack rental, fuelled by a love of vintage and slow fashion. That grew into a Mount Pleasant shop, then a second downtown location a year later. When Broadway subway construction disrupted the Mount Pleasant space, she consolidated everything into REVIVAL's current home at Bentall Centre Three, steps from Burrard Station — and shifted fully into colour analysis.
What Is Colour Analysis?
Personal colour analysis identifies which colour palette works best with your natural colouring — the shades that brighten your eyes, even your skin tone, and make you look put-together with zero extra effort.
Christina practices the 23-colour palette system, a more detailed evolution of the classic four-season method (winter, summer, spring, autumn). Each season splits further into sub-seasons and flows: deep, bright, cool, light, warm, muted for a far more precise match. The anchor for it all is undertone, which she notes never changes no matter your hair colour, tan, or makeup.
The Biggest Misconception
Many assume colour analysis means giving up their favourite black hoodie or neutrals. Christina was clear: it's not about restriction, it's about unlocking colours you didn't know worked for you. Clients leave with a digital palette of hundreds of shades.
Live Analysis: What Happened On Air
Christina walked Sophia through a live undertone assessment using draping fabric, and the shift was audible even on the podcast — some shades brightened her whole face, others visibly dulled it. The verdict: True Winter — high contrast between dark hair/eyes and lighter skin, meaning bold, saturated, icy colours suit her best. Blue-based reds, jewel-tone blues, and cool pinks all lit her up, while warmer, orange-leaning versions of the same colours fell flat.
The Research Behind It
Cornell University studied the brain's mesolimbic pathway (tied to motivation and behaviour) and found wearing the right colours measurably affects how people show up.
Durham University found combat-sport athletes at the 2004 Olympics randomly assigned red gear won roughly 55% of matches against opponents in blue — Christina's tip: wear red to an interview or big sales call.
Why It Pairs With Slow Fashion
After watching The True Cost in 2015 and learning how damaging fast fashion is to the environment, Christina committed to shopping secondhand and vintage — a habit that's stuck for 11 years. Knowing your colours makes that easier: instead of guessing on Depop, Poshmark, Marketplace, or Main Street vintage shops, you know exactly what to look for, cutting down on wasted purchases.
A Downtown Vancouver Activity for Everyone
REVIVAL's location beside Burrard Station makes it an easy stop for downtown office teams looking for a corporate activity, and for tourists wanting something more memorable than another walking tour. Christina has seen a steady stream of visitors booking between conferences and during major events like this year's World Cup matches. Watch the live Colour Analysis Session HERE.
