Why Black isn’t for everyone and why you should wear colour

“But black looks good on everyone, right?”

I hear this all the time—and the truth? It doesn’t. According to Radiantly Dressed, Deep Autumn and Deep Winter each make up approximately 10–12% of the population. Combined, they account for nearly a quarter of people—the group most naturally suited to high-contrast, deep tones like black.

In other words, only about 25% of people may have the contrast and cool/deep colouring that lets them wear black effortlessly. For everyone else, black can exaggerate shadows, emphasize fine lines, or make skin appear flat and tired.

Three reasons why black can be limiting:

  1. It deepens under-eye circles and jawline shadows.

  2. It can dull skin tone when undertones clash.

  3. It overpowers softer or warmer palettes.

The Power of Colour

This is where colour becomes transformative. The right shades bring your face to life—they brighten the skin, make eyes sparkle, and give features definition. Beyond that, colour carries energy: it can shift your mood, boost confidence, and help you show up in the world as your most authentic self. At Revival, clothing is a canvas for individuality and self-expression. Our curated mix of vintage and contemporary pieces proves that style doesn’t have to be flat or monochrome. From saturated jewel tones to soft neutrals and playful patterns, Revival makes colour accessible, sustainable, and timeless.
